The Flight of Dragons

Plot summary

http://www.filmsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/12/TheFlightOfDragons1.jpg

This is an animated movie based on the book by Peter Dickinson. In this movie the realm of magic is being threatened by the realm of logic, so Carolinus, the green wizard decides to shield it for all time. Ommedon, the evil red wizard, stands in his way. Carolinus then calls for a quest that is to be led by a man named Peter Dickinson, who is the first man of both the realms of science and magic. It is Peters job to defeat Ommedon. Written by {ivenho@pacific.net}

Faced with the inevitable replacement of magic by science, the magician Carolinus summons his 3 brothers (all magicians) to pitch a wild plan. The creation of a realm of magic to exist separate and apart from the world of man, where all things magical can be protected. 2 of Carolinus' brothers buy into the plan and offer their assistance. However one brother Ommadon rebels refusing to join this retirement village. Ommadon has another plan in mind, he wants to take the fight directly to man hoping to use their science against them. Prevented from direct interference, the 3 brothers arrange a quest to defeat Ommadon. A quest championed by a local knight Sir Orin Neville Smythe, the dragons Gorbash and Smrgol, and a yet unknown leader who must be a man of science. Calling out to antiquity, Carolinus locates Peter Dickenson, a modern day man of science and manages to convince him to join and lead the quest. However, a spell gone awry creates additional challenges for Peter, huge ones for that matter. What ensues is a wondrous adventure full of interesting characters, challenges, and perils that will cumulate in a face off between Peter and Ommadon. This story combines the literary works of Gordon R. Dickson's "The Dragon and the George" for core characters and themes, Peter Dickinson's "The Flight of Dragons" for the design of dragons and mechanics of dragon flight, and writer Romeo Muller who brings in the science verses magic angle as well as the romantic sub-plot. This is essentially eight separate short films, though with some overlaps in terms of characters and thematic material - chiefly that of man's relationship with his environment. 'Sunshine Through The Rain': a young boy is told not to go out on the day when both weather conditions occur, because that's when the foxes hold their wedding procession, which could have fatal consequences for those who witness it. 'The Peach Orchard': the same young boy encounters the spirits of the peach trees that have been cut down by heartless humans. 'The Blizzard': a team of mountaineers are saved from a blizzard by spiritual intervention. 'The Tunnel': a man encounters the ghosts of an army platoon, whose deaths he was responsible for. 'Crows': an art student encounters 'Vincent Van Gogh' and enters the world of his paintings. 'Mount Fuji in Red': nuclear meltdown threatens the devastation of Japan. 'The Weeping Demon': a portrait of a post-nuclear world populated by human mutations. 'Village of the Watermills': a sunny portrait of a village whose population is entirely at one with nature. Written by swansongang

Lightning McQueen is a young, hotshot rookie race car in the last race of the season. At the end of the race, he finds out he is tied with Chick Hicks and The King. On the way to the tie-breaker race in Los Angeles, California, some hot punk cars get him lost in a little town called Radiator Springs on the old Route 66 road, which has been long forgotten many years ago. Scared to death, he tears up the town's main road and is sentenced to community service by Doc Hudson. During this time, he meets a funny, but lovable tow truck named Mater and a beautiful Porsche Carrera named Sally. He also meets some other cars, whom which he finds to be quite odd. All he wants to do is get out of this town and back into the big city, but as the week until the race goes on, the town folk help him discover that life isn't just about trophies, fame, and sponsorships and McQueen learns about family and friendship. Successful rookie racer Lightning McQueen has, to his pleasure, just won a 3-way tie with elder rival Chick Hicks and champ "The King", but is also proud and unappreciative of long-time (mostly older) supporters enough to have his ignored pit-crew desert him. Accidentally lost en route to California for the tie-breaker, he crashes through Radiator Springs on Route 66, destroying the road and some property. Forced to remain in town until he repairs them, he's stuck in a small community whose tight-knit inhabitants accept neither his selfishness nor bad attitude. Refusing to respect them initially, he eventually returns the friendship of redneck Mater and falls in love with Sally, but can't seem to get gruff Doc Hudson, who keeps a painful secret, to change his mind about him. Soon Lightning learns the inhabitants of the town as a whole, who are almost a secret to the outside world, also had a past now painfully absent, and tries to help them enjoy it once more.
